Queens of Geek - Jen Wilde

Queens of GeekQueens of Geek by Jen Wilde
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Do you have those teens who are all in when it comes to geeking out and cosplay? Are your teens wishing that they could go to Comicon, Mangacon or any kind of Con?! This is the book for those teens. Two girls and their best guy Jamie set out to rock SupaCon. One is a vlogger, one just a geek for SciFi and the other is a rising movie star. Somehow, and in very different ways, all three find love and themselves at this amazing life changing SupaCon. The book did include intimate scenes and quite a bit of language. Recommended Purchase - Grades 10+.

Torchlight Lullaby by Ryan Fisher

*This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review*
I truly loved this graphic novel. Ella, our main character, is a lonely little girl. You see how she doesn't really connect with her friends at school and her only real friend is her stuffed mouse Winchell. When Ella sleeps, she is transported to a dream world. In this world, she faces adventure, but mostly danger and is accompanied by her now "living" Winchell. Through her dream journey, she realizes that she must face some of the toughest obstacles of all and make the right decision.

Ella's decisions, her friends and her heart are what made me love this story. The art is beautiful and the story ends with pain and with happiness (as all good stories should end). I don't recommend this book for kids under 5th grade. There are some moments that the tone is more intended for a YA (gr 5/6-12) audience. I would read more by Ryan Fisher and I would love to see if Ella's mind takes him to any other lands.

Zombie Apocalypse

Saturday, we had our Zombie Apocalypse program where our teens came in and had to decide what was the most important things they would take with them in case of a zombie apocalypse. We also had them zombie up some rubber duckies and make a warning coffee mug. Here are a couple pictures of the desserts we made. We also did a meme wall and allowed the kids to take the posters home with them when they were finished. We finished it up by playing the card game "serial killer" and "human, human, zombie."

The Red Queen

I loved this book. It's Dystopian to be sure but Dystopia meets the X-men. I loved everything and wish I had some closure at the end of book one, but since I don't have any, I'll just patiently await the sequel. I am glad this book is being optioned for film.

I added it as Grade 9 on Goodreads, but I'm going to wait and see what the other two books add content-wise before I make a full decision.

Taming Lily

ARC received for review from NetGalley.

The last Fleur sister and the troublemaker of the family. Lily finds herself running to Maui to escape impending danger only to find danger in Maui. This time danger comes after her heart, her family and her company. Will Lily learn that trust is something she can give Max? Will their fling stay in Maui?

This book was funny and romantic. I loved the chemistry between Max and Lily. I loved the Maui background and loved seeing all three Fowler sisters come together in this novel.
