I truly loved this graphic novel. Ella, our main character, is a lonely little girl. You see how she doesn't really connect with her friends at school and her only real friend is her stuffed mouse Winchell. When Ella sleeps, she is transported to a dream world. In this world, she faces adventure, but mostly danger and is accompanied by her now "living" Winchell. Through her dream journey, she realizes that she must face some of the toughest obstacles of all and make the right decision.
Ella's decisions, her friends and her heart are what made me love this story. The art is beautiful and the story ends with pain and with happiness (as all good stories should end). I don't recommend this book for kids under 5th grade. There are some moments that the tone is more intended for a YA (gr 5/6-12) audience. I would read more by Ryan Fisher and I would love to see if Ella's mind takes him to any other lands.
